Cybercriminals request personal or financial information while posing as a bank or a company that appears to have some kind of relationship with the victim. They may use a real person\u2019s voice or an automated system. In other words, i<strong>n this scam the attacker can have<\/strong> <strong data-start=\"603\" data-end=\"637\">direct contact with the victim<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"735\" data-end=\"756\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_does_vishing_work\"><\/span><strong data-start=\"917\" data-end=\"943\">How does vishing work?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"945\" data-end=\"1000\">Some common elements of the vishing modus operandi:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1002\" data-end=\"1581\">\n<li data-start=\"1002\" data-end=\"1133\">\n<p data-start=\"1004\" data-end=\"1133\">The scammer contacts the victim by phone, often using number spoofing so the call appears to come from a legitimate entity.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1134\" data-end=\"1294\">\n<p data-start=\"1136\" data-end=\"1294\">A sense of urgency or alarm is created: <em data-start=\"1180\" data-end=\"1217\">\u201cYour account has been compromised\u201d<\/em>, <em data-start=\"1219\" data-end=\"1259\">\u201cWe urgently need to verify your data\u201d<\/em>, pushing the victim to act fast.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1295\" data-end=\"1452\">\n<p data-start=\"1297\" data-end=\"1452\">The call may include an automated system or a real person guiding the victim to reveal data such as card number, PIN, passwords, security codes, etc.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1453\" data-end=\"1581\">\n<p data-start=\"1455\" data-end=\"1581\">With this information, scammers can carry out withdrawals, fraudulent purchases, unauthorized transfers or identity theft.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 data-start=\"1583\" data-end=\"1627\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"When_in_doubt_take_extra_precautions\"><\/span><strong data-start=\"1586\" data-end=\"1627\">When in doubt, take extra precautions<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1629\" data-end=\"1906\">Vishing is a dangerous scam and can appear far more believable than an SMS or an email \u2014 but it\u2019s not. This is why caution is crucial, especially with elderly people or users with low digital experience, who may trust a phone call as a more \u201cserious\u201d or \u201creliable\u201d channel.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1908\" data-end=\"2142\">If you receive an unexpected call asking for personal information, be suspicious.
