Its purpose is essential: <strong>protecting card transactions and preventing fraud<\/strong>, especially in online purchases. The CVV acts as an extra layer of security to confirm that the person making the payment physically has the card.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"235\" data-end=\"628\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14479\" src=\"https:\/\/paynopain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Card-details.png\" alt=\"Card elements.\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/paynopain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Card-details.png 750w, https:\/\/paynopain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Card-details-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"630\" data-end=\"651\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Types_of_CVV_codes\"><\/span>Types of CVV codes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"652\" data-end=\"701\">There are mainly two types of verification codes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"703\" data-end=\"910\"><strong data-start=\"703\" data-end=\"733\">Card-present transactions:<\/strong> The card is physically present. The card\u2019s security code is stored in the magnetic stripe and, when the card is inserted into the POS terminal, the transaction is authorized.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"703\" data-end=\"910\"><strong data-start=\"912\" data-end=\"946\">Card-not-present transactions:<\/strong> The card is not physically present. In this case, the CVV must be entered manually to complete the transaction. It is printed on the back of the card.
