It acts as a bridge that enables different applications to exchange information and functionalities without needing to know each other’s internal details.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the payments sector, APIs allow a store, app, or management system to connect with a <\/span>payment gateway<\/span><\/a>, processor, or financial service provider to <\/span>authorise, process, and manage <\/b>transactions<\/b><\/a>,<\/b> as well as receive payment status notifications without manual intervention.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>How do APIs work?<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

APIs work by exposing <\/span>endpoints<\/b> through which one application can send requests to another and receive responses. For example, when an e-commerce platform sends payment details to a payment gateway via an API, the payment system processes the request and returns a result (approved or declined), which the <\/span>ecommerce<\/span><\/a> platform can use to update the order status.<\/span><\/p>\n
