Pago contactless

What are contactless payments?

Contactless payments, also known as tap-and-go payments, allow transactions by simply bringing a card, mobile phone, or smart device (like a smartwatch) close to a compatible terminal, without inserting the card or entering a PIN.

This technology uses NFC (Near Field Communication), a short-range wireless communication system (less than 10 centimeters) that securely transmits information between the customer’s device and the payment terminal.

In practice, you just need to bring the card or mobile device close to the physical POS and wait a few seconds to complete the transaction. Fast, simple, and contact-free.

How do contactless payments work?

1. NFC signal emission

When the customer brings their card or device close, the terminal detects it and establishes a secure connection.

2. Encrypted information transfer

Card data is not transmitted directly. Temporary tokens are used to ensure security.

3. Authentication and verification

The system validates the payment, applying amount limits (usually €50 in Spain) to allow PIN-free transactions.

4. Instant confirmation

The payment is approved within seconds, and the usual receipt is generated.

Benefits of accepting contactless payments in your store

Adopting this technology not only improves the customer experience, but also optimizes your business operations:

Faster payments and no queues

Unlike cash or chip card payments, contactless transactions are completed in seconds, reducing lines and improving customer turnover.

Higher security and regulatory compliance

Information is encrypted using tokenization; real card data is never shared. Contactless payments also comply with PSD2, ensuring strong authentication and fraud protection.

Hygienic and innovative experience

Particularly valued since the pandemic, avoiding physical contact reinforces the perception of modernity and trust in your business.

Mobile compatibility

More and more users pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, or smartwatches. According to the Bank of Spain, the use of mobile devices for in-store payments rose to 7% in 2024, three points higher than in 2022.

Fewer manual errors

By not inserting the card or entering a PIN, incidents and customer service times are reduced.
